[ He says it through gritted teeth. How long is she going to hold his neck? ]

[She makes a small noise of contempt, moving over to his hand. Her eyes linger hungrily on the rune for a moment, then she pulls out the needles.]

You can have a break. You're no good to me if you're finished, after all.

[ He gasps as they're pulled out, eyes instantly drawn over to his hand and the little pools of blood welling where the needles had been. ]

[Rita is unbothered, though she pauses for a moment.]

Are you capable of healing yourself?

[ He won't even try nodding. ]

Yeah. You don't need to do anything.

[She makes no move to leave, though.]

[ He looks down to his hand and the drops of blood rolling off it as he casts a quick spell. Healing Drops comes out as just a mumble, though the spell is as thorough as ever as the water hits his right hand. ]

[She stands there and watches, observing-]

...That's right. Runes only require and incantation.

[ Now he feels nervous... ]

[Her expression is as cold as ever, but there's a spark of interest in her eyes.]

They're built into the runes. Once it's attached, you'll know it unconsciously...

I would assume it developed in a logical and understandable way. Is your world totally backwards?

The magic didn't develop in my world. It was created when the world was created and evolved naturally. The magic is tied to the runes; people don't just wear jewellery and make up spells.

Hmph! No, you just wear the runes and act like their puppets instead, don't you?

Just so you know, I don't plan on killing you to take the rune for myself. You can keep that parasite. But I will find a method to control it.

[With that, she sneers, and strides away--out of the room, leaving him alone and tied up.]

[ His glare intensifies - not because he particularly likes his runes, but because she's just being so rude. Although he opens his mouth to snap back, he just as soon closes it when he sees her walk away. This is his chance to get out. ]
